Carlos Alvarado: Photographer
Born: La Esperanza, El Salvador
December 1971

In 1981 after the explosion of the revolution in El Salvador, Alvarado and his surviving family flee to the U.S.A. and land in Malibu, California.

For five years, photographer Carlos Alvarado has been traveling to Cuba, working intimately with several troops of the Cuban Ballet. His images show a side of Cuba that people rarely get to see. Through his images, he takes us “Beyond the Cars and the Cigars” and into the underworld of the arts and culture of this incredible island.

From these works, Alvarado has gotten the attention of the Cuban art world. In 2005, Carlos was invited to exhibit in La Habana, Cuba, alongside six world-renowned Cuban painters and photographers. In 2006,

Alvarado’s exhibit in La Habana, was featured in one of the galleries to visit during the "Biennial" (Cuban art festival).
Alvarado is preparing to publish a book of his works on the Cuban ballet. He is also in pre-production for a full-length documentary on the Cuban ballet. This would give him a chance to share his work with the world, helping people see a little glimpse of the beautiful Cuba he knows and loves.
